What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Jack Nelson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Tulsa always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Jack Nelson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our team is NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these criteria, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Jack Nelson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
