Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last several weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Jack Nelson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can get clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Jack Nelson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 918-212-8927 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
